As long as I can manage not to take myself too seriously, my fantasy can continue to run wild and dream up projects such as Duetto. A clever sofa that can be turned into a single bed for a friend to sleep on
(the other half can be moved elsewhere), or an intelligent product whereby the two halves can be pushed together for those more intimate moments. Duetto was not designed to be a new sofa-bed, but instead a unique product of its type. The research that we put into perfecting working with wood in a natural way using interlocking joints, with no iron, treating the wood with boiled linseed oil and choosing technological materials to ensure a good night’s sleep (lightweight, breathable, hypo-allergenic, biodegradable), are all fundamental elements that enable us to respect the environment and to ensure that the end product is one of top quality. Its four elements: two wooden structures and two separate mattresses that, based on the way they are positioned, become a comfy sofa, two single beds, a double bed or can also be arranged at right angles. One of the fundamental concepts of Plinio il Giovane is to exploit all the parts of the product to make them functional. The slats are inserted by hand, one by one, in a swallow-tail design and fixed in place with wooden pin to give resilience and lightness to the product.
The cushion covers are removable. Treatment with boiled pure linseed oil exalts the veins in the wood whilst ensuring that the product is waterproof, improving the patina and durability.
The engineering of lightness
All our products are made according to the lightness engineering.
Raw materials are valuable to us and should therefore not be wasted.
This is why every single element of our product is structural and calculated according to the stresses to which it is subjected.
Nothing is superfluous, hence the perfect balance between lightness and resistance.
